Messing with Miata

My current Miata is showing signs of wear.  I've thought of buying a new car; but there isn't anything on the market that really excites me.  The 350Z and 2002 Carrera I drove recently were excellent cars but affected an air of regal aloofness when asked to clip an apex or thrash a turn.  I'm looking for a 2+2 that is thrilling to drive, graceful to behold and practical to have; a modern day Aurelia.  Then I drove the new Miata and was impressed.  I know it's MX-5 now but does Mazda really believe that a name change is necessary to improve the car's genetics?  Would Foreman not kick butts if his name was Georgie?  I needn't sing the car praise because others have already done so.  I have only a few gripes.  First, please lower the stance.  Second, improve the breathing.  Third, conjure up the Voodoo.  Finally, let's consider a detachable hard top that, when installed, changes the shape of the new Miata and turns it into a more practical car.  One that will increase trunk space; perhaps turns the new Miata into a 2+storage behind the seats; allows a roof rack and improves the aerodynamics for the Spec Miata folks...OK the last one does not belong in the practical category.  Perhaps Mazda ought to consider, in addition to the MX-5, a simple 2+ roadster (no soft top) with a detachable hard top like the one pictured below:

miata-hardtop.jpg I know Mazda's designers can make the hard top's hatch double funtion as trunk lid for alfresco driving.  (update: seems that they have worked out the retractable hard top option)

Update:  Mark Tapscotts kindly pointed out the souped-up RX-8 over at The Garrage Blog's.  Thanks.
